As you know, dear fans and readers, I write in a wide-range of genres: everything from my highly acclaimed time travel series (The Carthage Chronicles) to my latest return to my romantic comedy roots (Mt. Hope Southern Adventures). What you may not know is that 10 years ago, I also took a stab at writing a medical thriller with my good friend and award-winning romantic suspense author LISA HARRIS.
Here's the story as to how all that came about and what it means for you:
In June, 2008 the Dallas Morning News carried a story on the atrocities committed against albinos in Tanzania. The picture of a terrified albino caught my attention. As I read about the horrors these fragile people face, I couldn’t believe that such evil existed in the world. So I contacted Lisa (she's a missionary in Mozambique, a country that borders Tanzania) and asked if she could find out if the genocide of albinos was being carried out simply because of the difference in the color of their skin.
To be honest, until I wrote to Lisa about the article I’d read, she’d never heard of these barbaric crimes. But after doing some further research, Lisa discovered that what I’d read was true. Once we learned that the witch doctors pay people to harvest the pale skin and hair of these fragile people in order to make good luck charms and potions, we knew we had to tell their story.
The writing--and recently extensive rewriting--of this book has been a long journey, but we believe the timing for its release is perfect. Because while we live in a fallen world, we believe it is possible to bring light into the darkness. The journey of each of these characters challenged us, comforted us, and pushed us to live life more courageously. But most of all, writing this story opened our hearts to wanting to do our part to create a world that loves no matter what the color of our skin, education, financial status, or nationality.
For God's light to shine, sometimes it take a brave person willing to step into the darkness. We pray this story will ignite a flame so bright no corner of the earth will be left in shadow.
I'm excited to announce the the book is up for pre-order as an ebook on Kindle. The book will be officially on sale August 1st on all other platforms including paperback.
Lisa and I have started a blog which will have more behind the scenes info that you can only see there. We'd love for you to follow us at: HarrisGentrySuspense
